The Embassy of Malaysia participated in the International Mother Language Day event held at Zuiderpark Paviljoen, The Hague on 21 February 2016. The event was organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh to promote worldwide awareness on linguistic and cultural diversity. International Mother Language Day was formally recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.
The programme started with the placing of floral wreath ceremony at the language monument in Zuiderpark, followed by remarks by Deputy Mayor of The Hague and several Ambassadors. The programme then proceeded with international cultural performance. Among the participating embassies are Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Viet Nam and Thailand. Malaysian singer, Ms. Shafaatusaara Silahudin, a Malaysian student from Leiden University, represented Malaysian Embassy in rendering one traditional song titled ‘Gunung Bentan’.
