Malaysia has strongly reaffirmed its commitment to the Palestinian cause, advocating for the full implementation of the January 15 ceasefire agreement to pave the way for lasting peace. Speaking at the formal inauguration of The Hague Group on 31 January 2025, Malaysia's Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dato' Roseli Abdul, highlighted the critical need for international action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and restore hope for the Palestinian people.
The Ambassador emphasized that after over 500 days of conflict and nearly 50,000 deaths, the Gaza ceasefire brings a much-needed reprieve, though violence continues. He called for justice, the end of impunity, and protection of the rights and dignity of Palestinians, asserting that Malaysia’s stance is guided by humanitarian principles, the United Nations Charter, and international law.
Dato' Roseli stressed the importance of recognizing Palestinian statehood and protecting their right to self-determination, condemning Israel’s repeated violations of UN resolutions and its apartheid-like policies. He also urged the international community to support legal recourse at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and work towards a just resolution that reflects the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
The Ambassador also called for the same global resolve that once fought against apartheid in South Africa to now address the injustices faced by Palestinians.
