22 September, The Hague – Six Malaysian paralympic athletes made the country proud with a medal haul of 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze at the recently concluded International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation (IWAS) World Games 2013 held in Stadskanaal, the Netherlands. This year, 26 nations participated in the biennial event.
Track star Mohd. Azlan Mat Lazin won two gold medals in the 100 meters and 200 meters event and a silver medal in the 400 meters event. Three more silver medals came from Eryanto Bahitiar for the triple jump and Hisam Che Soh for the shot put and discus event. Rounding up the medal tally were Krisha Kumar Hari Das and Ahmad Rafee Arifin, each winning bronze for the 400meters and 1500 meters event respectively.
Datuk Dr. Fauziah Mohamad Taib, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Netherlands was present along with officers and staff of the Embassy of Malaysia in The Hague to support and cheer the Malaysian contingent. |
