On 31st March 2014, YAB Datuk Seri DiRaja Haji Adnan bin Haji Yaakob, Chief Minister of Pahang led a technical visit to Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier in the Zeeland province of the Netherlands. Amongst those present were YB. Dato’ Ir. Haji Mohd Soffi, Chairman of State Basic Amenities and Environment Committee and senior state officials. The objective of the visit was to tap Dutch engineering expertise in integrated water management, coast line management and flood mitigation system. The Chief Minister and delegation members were provided with a briefing and tour of the Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier to get first-hand information on how the barrier prevents flooding in the Zeeland province and to the south of Holland as a whole. The Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier was built to protect the Zeeland region and South of Holland from the sea after the North Sea Flood in 1953. |
