On Friday, 19 August 2011, His Excellency Dato’ Mazlan Muhammad attended the Opening Ceremony of the Asia Pacific Rim Junior Diving Competition held at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, Kilbirnie. 9 teams participated in this tournament, including the junior divers from Malaysian national team, comprising one senior and well known diver, Yeoh Ken Nee.
The Opening Ceremony commenced at 6 pm with speeches from Llyod Morison, the Chairman of Wellington High Performance Aquatics. The tournament was declared open by City Councillor Jo Coughlan.
Earlier of the day, Malaysian divers already won a gold medal in the 1metre dive through Ooi Liang Tze. Dato’ Mazlan stayed on to cheer for the Malaysian divers participating at the Girls Group 1metre dive, where our divers won silver and bronze medals through Ling Kar Kam and Traisy Vivien Tukiet respectively. Earlier Dato’ Mazlan met with the Malaysian team members and wish them luck.
