His Excellency Dato' Mazlan Muhammad and YBhg. Datin Norini Mokhtar hosted the 48th Malaysia Day Reception on Friday, 16 September 2011 at Bunga Raya Hall, Malaysian High Commission. The reception was attended by approximately 220 guests. Honourable Georgina Te Heuheu, Minister of Disarmament and Arms Control New Zealand was the Guest of Honou, representing the Government of New Zealand.
2. The reception commenced with National Anthems of both countries, God Defend New Zealand and Negaraku, followed by High Commissioner's speech. He narrated the history of how Malaysian came into being, while recalling the stuggle and strive to defend the young nation from the threat of communism and confrontation, and current efforts undertaken by Prime Minister i.e. GTP and ETP to bring Malaysia forward as a developed country.
3. Minister Geogina Te Heuheu delivered her reply on behalf of the Government New Zealand and thanked Malaysia profoundly for being a reliable and trusted friend of New Zealand. She also spoke on the cordial ties that Malaysia and New Zealand has enjoyed in myriads of field such as education, defence, trade, and people-to-people’s linkages.
4. Dato’ High Commissioner then invited Minister Georgina for the cake cutting ceremony, followed by group photo with all Heads of Mission, followed by the conferment of Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) to 3 recipients; Mr. Roger Biggs, Mr. Stanley Simmonds, and Mr. John Layne.
5. Refreshments followed suit with a selection of Malaysian food such as satay, nasi impit, kuah kacang, mee goreng mamak, karipap, spring roll, bergedil, kuih seri muka, kuih bingka, curry puff, pulut rendang, and other cakes.
