Malaysians In New Zealand Celebrate Aidilfitri

WELLINGTON, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- They may be thousands of miles away from their parents, families and friends, but Malaysians in Wellington, New Zealand welcome Aidilfitri in a normal yet glorious tradition.

The first day of Syawal began with Aidilfitri takbir and prayers, jointly organised by the Malaysian High Commission and Islamic centres in the country.

After prayers, 300 invitees, including students from local universities, were served Raya cuisines and delicacies at the high commission's Dewan Bunga Raya.

In attendance were High Commissioner Datuk Hasnuddin Hamzah, Malaysia-New Zealand Student Department director Dr Rosli Mohammed and high commission officers and staff.

Hasnuddin also hosted a traditional open house at his residence in Khandallah here.
