Presentation of Letter of Credence, 15 September 2011

His Excellency Dato' Mazlan Muhammad, High Commissioner, presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency Lieutenant General the Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae GNZM QSO, Governor General and Commander in Chief In and Over the Realm of New Zealand, on Thursday, 15 September 2011 at the Government House, Wellington. In attendance were YBhg. Datin Norini Mokhtar, Miss Nur Ayuni Zainal Abidin, First Secretary, Dr. Rosli Mohammed, Director Education Malaysia New Zealand, and Lt. Col. Ahmad Faiezzelan Abd Karim, Defence Advisor. 

 

The ceremony commenced with the sounding of a bugle, followed by the Maori traditional welcome or "Powhiri", consisting of a traditional challenge. At the conclusion of the challenge ceremony, His Excellency and YBhg. Datin met the leading man and woman from the Maori cultural group, and exchange greetings with a hongi (light pressing of noses), which signals the conclusion of traditional Maori welcome. Dato' High Commissioner was then escoreted to the saluting dais, where the Guard of Honour presented arms (accompanied by the bugler playing General Salute). The Guard Commanded then invited Dato' High Commissioner to inspect the Guard. At the conclusion of the salute, Dato' High Commissioner and his party entered the Government House before presenting his Letter of Credence at the Blundell Room. Honourable Craig Foss, Minister of Civil Defence and Emergency Management was the Minister in attendance, accompanied by Mr. Rob Taylor, Chief of Protocol and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The ceremony concluded with an official luncheon hosted by Governor General and Lady Janine Mateparae for all Heads of Mission who presented their credential on that day, namely Mexico, Spain, Republic of Korea and the Philippines.
