On 20 February 2016, an ongoing protest by Jat Community in the state of Haryana (80km North West of New Delhi) has caused five deaths and 78 injuries. The protest was over the issues of public service jobs and placement in the educational institutions.
Curfew has now been imposed by the State Government in five towns namely Sonipat, Gohana, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Jhajjar. The protest has also spread to the city of Gurgaon (30 km from Delhi) and recently in New Delhi.
So far there are no Malaysian casualties. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia through the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi will continue to monitor the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises all Malaysians to remain vigilant and comply with any advisory issued by the Government of India.
