IN COLLABORATION WITH PERWAKILAN WELLINGTON & CIVIL SOCIETIES IN NEW ZEALAND
FEATURING ALIF SATAR & THE LOCOS
As Malaysia welcomes delegates to 46th ASEAN Summit, 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, and ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Kuala Lumpur on 26-27 May 2025, High Commission of Malaysia organised Malaysia Synergy Programme in Wellington in collaboration with The ladies Association of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (Perwakilan Wellington), The New Zealand Malaysian Society and Wellington Students Association to promote the beauty of Malaysia through cultural diplomacy. Perwakilan Wellington also participated in the Diplomatic Spouse Association to promote Malaysian gastronomy.
Under Malaysia’s ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC) Chairmanship, High Commissioner hosted stakeholders, ASEAN HOMs and spouses and Friends of Malaysia to a cultural immersive experience where taste, melody and style co-exist to showcase cultural diversity. Audiences were mesmerised by the performance of Hiwa Performance Creative where they delivered Maori performances with passion. Hiwa focuses on maintaining Customs whilst allowing the ever changing creative space to accomodate for different ideas to become a reality. Malaysian students did not disappoint either as they gracefully demonstrated the ‘joget’ , a traditional Malay dance.
The highlight of the night was the performance by Alif Satar and the Locos, all the way from Malaysia brought over by Tourism New Zealand and Malaysia Airlines. A tribute to Malaysia’s own history, Seniman Negara , TS P. Ramlee! These lads are a force to be reckoned with indeed!
Cultural diplomacy plays an essential role in the people to people’s linkages. It is through shared stories, music, food, and traditions that we cultivate understanding and empathy.
