On 12 December 2023, Ambassador Azhar undertook a visit to the WE News Head Office in Islamabad. The Ambassador was received by Naveed Miraj, the Director of WE News. Ambassador Azhar was accompanied by Mr. Mohd Syafik, Counsellor of the High Commission.
During the visit, the Ambassador was given a briefing on WE News. The Ambassador also took the opportunity to talk about economic cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan. Pakistan is Malaysia’s 3rd largest trading partner and export destination, and 2nd largest import source in the region. In 2022, the bilateral trade figure between Pakistan and Malaysia surpassed USD1.8 billion. Malaysia also has set a target of RM56 billion (USD12 billion) for export revenue in the halal industry by 2025.
The Ambassador highlighted that Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council is a good vehicle for Pakistan to enhance bilateral relations, especially in the field of economic cooperation.
The Ambassador added that as Islamic brother nations, Malaysia and Pakistan need to improve and enhance bilateral cooperation to greater heights, especially in the field of trade and investment. In the field of media cooperation, the Ambassador also proposed WE News to have a collaboration with Malaysian media, especially the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama). The visit was held and ended in a very good and cordial manner.
