54TH NATIONAL DAY OF MALAYSIA RECEPTION ON 14 SEPTEMBER 2011 AT VISION CITY MEGA MALL, PORT MORESBY
On the occasion of the 54th National Day of Malaysia, the Malaysian High Commissioner hosted a cocktail reception on 14 September 2011 at the Vision City. The guest-of-honour was the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea (PNG), Rt. Hon. Peter O’Neill. Around 250 guests attended the reception which included cabinet ministers, Hon. Charles Abel, Minister for Trade, Commerce & Industry, Hon. Andrew Mald and Minister for Community Development, secretaries and officials from the government departments, Alumni MTCP, business community, banks, Malaysian Association of PNG (MAPNG) and Malaysians registered with the High Commission.
The Malaysian High Commissioner received the Hon. Prime Minister of PNG with a Kompang Band which was launched for the first time. Upon arrival at the reception hall, the Prime Minister was ushered to his seat with an Iban Ngajat with Taboh, a traditional dance from the State of Sarawak, performed by Mr. Taro Anak Raweng. The Malaysian High Commissioner delivered a speech, followed by the National Anthem of Malaysia, toast, National Anthem of PNG, toast, cake cutting ceremony by the Hon. Prime Minister of PNG.
Thereafter the guests were entertained to dance performances namely, Cindai Zapin Poco Poco by the Malaysian Ladies from Port Moresby, Orang Ulu Ngajat with Sape, a traditional dance from the State of Sarawak, performed by Mr. Chuta Muchong and lastly a Multi Cultural Dance Extravaganza performance by the Malaysian Cultural Troupe which was specially flown from Malaysia by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture.
Malaysian delicacies, chicken and beef satays with peanut sauce, roti canai with dhall curry, fried noodles, fried rice, curry puff, kuih lapis and kuih bingka ubi kayu were served to the guests. The guests were given tourism Malaysia bags with tourism brochures and souvenirs. The 1Malaysia pin labels were distributed to all the Malaysians at the reception.
