The High Commission of Malaysia hosted the PNG Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Alumni Gathering on 10 December 2013 at the Grand Palace Restaurant, Port Moresby.
In his speech, High Commissioner of Malaysia H.E. Jilid Kuminding highlighted the importance of human capital development in developing PNG’s competitive edge in order to increase the ability to compete in the age of globalization and trade liberalisation. For the past 33 years, MTCP has allowed developing countries to network and help each other to develop strengths in knowledge and technical competency.
In respond, Mr Dennis Bebego, Director General for Economic and Development Cooperation of Department of Foreign Affairs representing the Government of PNG, spoke on the importance of developing the human resource of the nation. On behalf of the Government of PNG, he thanked the Government of Malaysia for making the MTCP programmes available to Papua New Guineans. Mr. Bebego also urged the alumni to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the courses in Malaysia and contribute constructively towards strengthening Malaysia- Papua New Guinea relations.
The program was attended by 38 alumni from various government agencies and stakeholders in PNG including Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Transport, Department of Environment, Department of Youth, Women and Community Development, National Broadcasting Corporation and University of Papua New Guinea. Besides Mr. Bebego, other guests of honour include Mr. Vincent Sumale, Director of Asia Branch of Department of Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Romanu Tikotikoca, High Commissioner of Fiji to PNG - who attended the training programme at Malaysia Police Academy in 1982; Mr. Chew Pang Heng, Vice-President of Malaysian Association of PNG; and Mr. Calvin Lim representing Maybank PNG.
