REPORT ON THE MALAYSIAN STUDENT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN NEW JERSEY

Local media reports on 4 January 2012 regarding the death of a Malaysian student in a road accident in New Jersey are factually incorrect and need to be rectified.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that only one Malaysian student, Ms. Hennis Tung who is currently a student in Ohio State University, was involved in a road accident on 2 January 2012 while on holiday in New Jersey. The Malaysian student is receiving treatment in Robert Johnson University Hospital, Rutgers, New Jersey and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in New York is providing assistance to the student and her family, and has been instructed to monitor the situation as well as to provide updates to Wisma Putra from time to time.
In addition, the Consulate General in New York is in contact with the student’s brother, who is also studying in Ohio State University, and has been informed that the parents are travelling to New Jersey and scheduled to arrive on 4 January 2012. The Consulate General in New York will provide logistical assistance to the family upon arrival.
