RECEPTION TO MARK THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDEPENDENCE OF MALAYSIA IN PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA

On Friday, 31st August 2007, the High Commission of Malaysia has successfully organized a reception to celebrate Malaysia’s 50th National Day held at Holiday Inn Port Moresby. Almost 400 people attended the reception including Governor of National Capital District, Honorable Powes Parkop, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, Members of Diplomatic Corp, Government senior officials, business houses and Malaysians from all walks of life. The event started with remarks from the Charge d’ Affaires, Mr. Zainal Izran Zahari followed by a toast to both Malaysia and Papua New Guinea’s Heads of State. Papua New Guinea Government was represented by Acting Chief of Protocol of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration, Ms. Barbara Mimino.

 

The event continued with cultural performances from the Malaysian ladies as well as Indian cultural performances from the Indian Association of PNG. Dignitaries and guest were also invited to join on the floor with the dancers. The High Commission also gave out ‘bunga telur’ as well as goodies courtesy from Tourism Malaysia.The receptions were well covered from both daily newspapers in Papua New Guinea namely The National and Post Courier.
