PYT Datin Seri Blanche Olbery, High Commissioner of Malaysia to PNG visited the New Britain Palm Oil Limited operations at Kimbe in the West New Britain Province from 7- 8 June 2012. Programme of the visit include tours to various NBPOL operations such as plantation site, oil mill and refinery, Dami seed production unit and Numundo beef cattle ranch.
NBPOL is a subsidiary of Kulim (Malaysia) Berhad and is the leading investor in the agriculture sector in PNG. The company recorded the highest ever revenues of USD 780.1 million in 2011 - an increase of over 69 percent compared to USD 461.2 million in 2010. NBPOL's core activities are the cultivation and processing of oil palm into crude palm oil as well as palm kernel oil and palm kernel expeller for sales to both domestic and foreign markets. Apart from palm oil, NBPOL operation also includes Numundo beef production for domestic market.
In 2011, NBPOL received the New Sustainability Champion award by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The award was given to companies from developing countries deemed as able to balance between profit making activities and address the social and environmental needs.
The Counsellor of the High Commission of Malaysia, Mr. Farzamie Sarkawi also accompanied the High Commissioner at the visit.
