On 19 June 2012, the High Commissioner of Malaysia together with the Head of Chancery paid a visit to The National - one of the leading newspapers in Papua New Guinea and a subsidiary of Rimbunan Hijau Group. The visit was intended to learn more about The National’s operation and their approach as the country is gearing towards the national election. During the visit, the High Commission representatives exchanged views with Mr. SF Yong, Executive Director of the National and News Editor Ms. Jacqueline Wari about political, economic and social situation of PNG. The discussion also revolved around topics such as challenges faced by the print media that include coping with digital age and strategies to disseminate information in order to inform and educate the public effectively. Print media is still regarded as the main source of information in PNG, a developing country with the ratio of readership of 1 newspaper for 8 readers. Apart from discussion, program of the visit also included tours to news desk and printing.
