Bazaar serves up treats of Malaysia

Gulf Times, 14 August 2010 - Malaysian delicacies and food ingredients were offered at affordable prices at a ‘Malaysian Ramadan Bazaar’ held at the Hyatt Plaza yesterday. Organised by the Malaysian Association of Qatar and Perwakilan Doha (Malaysian Diplomatic Wives Association), the bazaar held at the food court of the mall attracted a large number of visitors. The event, organised with the theme of ‘Bringing Malaysians Together’, was modelled after traditional street bazaars that open during Ramadan in Malaysia.

Such bazaars are very popular in Malaysia during the fasting month of Ramadan and are mostly held in cities and their suburbs. These bazaars are patronised by the faithful mostly to buy Iftar food,” a spokesperson for the organisers said. “It has become a major tradition in our country in the holy month of Ramadan.”  

The bazaar featured some 20 stalls. Among the items they offered were food, drinks, condiments and ingredients. The cooked food available at the stalls included Nasi Lemak (coconut rice), Satay (marinated skewered beef or chicken) Ayam Percik (grilled chicken), Keropok Lekor (fish cracker), Penang Laksa ( fish noodles) and Murtabak (savoury pancakes).
