Gulf Times, 31 August 2011 (by Peter Townson/Staff Reporter): The Malaysian Ambassador Ahmad Jazri hosted a reception to mark the Eid al-Fitr holidays and the country’s National Day.
The envoy told Gulf Times that the attendance of over 400 people at the reception represented a great success and surpassed his expectations.
“It was great and quite an achievement considering a large number of Malaysians are currently away on holiday,” he said.
The event began with Eid morning prayers and was followed by an address by the ambassador, during which he reminded community members that they are representing their community, asking them to behave well.
“Malaysians should work together, stay close together and help each other as much as possible,” he said, adding that he had asked any unregistered community members to register at the embassy, something he wants all Malaysians in Qatar to do.
“It is an opportunity to meet other people from throughout the country and to get to know fellow Malaysians living in Qatar,” he said, referring to the recently introduced online system making the process of registering with the embassy much easier than in the past.
The ambassador also spoke about the political situation in Malaysia, discussing the government’s transformation programme and economic initiatives, and explaining that the country is attempting to establish political stability and give its citizens a good lifestyle.
“The government has its role and responsibility and the people also have a role and responsibility to contribute to their country,” he said, adding “they should tell their colleagues in Qatar about the country.”
He also emphasised the importance of retaining ties to their family and friends back at home, urging Malaysians not to forget their home country.
“Many people work so hard that they forget about people back home, but it is important to remember our family and friends and to go back and see them when you get the chance,” said Jazri.
The ambassador also expressed his gratitude to the Al Resala Secondary Independent School for Girls for allowing the embassy to host the event at its premises.“It was a great day and reminded people of celebrating back at home in Malaysia,” added the ambassador.
