The Malaysian Embassy in Doha celebrated the country’s 52nd National Day on 17 Nov 2009.
Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar, HE Dato Muhammad Sharul Ikram Yaakob, was joined by the Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow-up Affairs, HE Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mutib al Rumaihi, and other diplomats in officiating the ceremony, which was held at the Holiday Villa Hotel.
Guests who attended the event were treated to an evening of authentic Malaysian dishes as well as the warmth of Malaysian hospitality.
The Ambassador lauded his country’s continuing strong and close bilateral relations with Qatar, a fact reflected by the recent State visit to Malaysia by the Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani in June, which followed an official visit to Qatar by former prime minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, in January this year.
He expressed his gratitude to the Qatari government for opening its doors to the Malaysian companies and enabling them to take part in Qatar’s economic and infrastructural developments.
The Ambassador cited several Malaysian companies operating in Doha including Sime Darby Engineering, Gamuda, Muhibbah, Eversendai as well as the Holiday Villa Hotel, which is being managed by a Malaysian company.
He then highlighted the strengthening relations between Qatar and Malaysia and expressed his desire to further strengthen these relations.
“Malaysia has been enjoying political stability, a prominent feature which has been the draw point for foreign direct investment in the country,” the Ambassador said.
“Political stability and the well being of the multi-ethnic and multi-religious people of Malaysia will continue to be promoted and enhanced under the concept of ‘1 Malaysia: People First, Performance Now’, as introduced by the 6th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, who took office in early April this year.” The Ambassador also said that close to 8,000 people from Qatar have visited Malaysia in 2008.
Malaysia has continually maintained its pace as a leading tourist destination of residents here.
Most newlyweds here have also preferred the country for their honeymoon destinations.
