Malaysian National Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony
Doha, 1 Sept. 2008 - The Embassy of Malaysia in Doha celebrated the 51st Malaysian National Day on 31 August 2008 at the Embassy compound. The event, which began at 6.50 pm, was attended by more than 300 Malaysians of various races.
The event started with the recitation of prayer and followed by the Malaysian flag hoisting ceremony, which was accompanied by the singing of Malaysian national anthem, 'Negaraku'. H.E. Dato' Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar then delivered his speech and completed the event with a cake cutting ceremony.
Mr. Yaakob Abdul Rahman, the President of Malaysian Association in Qatar (MAQ), as well as representatives from Malaysian companies also attended the event.
In his speech, Dato' Shahrul Ikram emphasized the importance of Independence Day and the harmonious co-existence of multi-racial community in Malaysia. He highlighted how several countries suffer from inter-racial fighting and even civil war. He also advised the Malaysians to share with the Embassy in terms of information affecting the country.
The Malaysians enjoyed a selection of dishes that reminded them of home.
The ceremony was followed by congregational Solat Isya', Solat Tarawih and a religious talk to commemorate the month of Ramadan.
