DOHA • Mouth-watering dishes were on sale for people to relish at the ‘Malaysian Ramadan Bazaar 2008’ organised by the Malaysian Association of Qatar (MAQ) in cooperation with Hyatt Plaza Mall yesterday at the mall's food court.
Hundreds of food lovers swarmed the bazaar as Malaysian and Indonesian food featured at the18 stalls specially set up for the occasion.
People from different countries picked up food such as ayam percik (special Malaysian grilled chicken marinated with herbs and spices), nasi lemuk (rice mixed with coconut milk), and nasi kerabu and nasi minyak (Malaysian versions of makboush and mandi), and soya bean and plum juices. For those with a sweet tooth, puddings, cakes and other sweets were also available.
The Indonesian community participated enthusiastically making available to the public authentic Indonesian food and products such as fans, scarves and key chains.
"The event has been very promising with good support not only from Malaysians but from other communities as well. We did not expect that other nationalities would also turn up today," said Yaakob A Rahman, MAQ President.
"We were supposed to start at 2pm but we opened the stalls 30 minutes earlier since many people were already waiting," Rahman added.
He noted this was the fourth year that they had organised the annual event and they had other activities lined up for the rest of this year.
The event also saw a charity drive with donation boxes set up to help Ghana and Palestine.
