National Day Reception

The Embassy of Malaysia in Qatar organised a reception to commemorate the 51st National Day of Malaysia on 6 November 2008 at the Diplomatic Club.
During his speech, Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar HE Dato' Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob told a brief background of Malaysian independence on 31 August 1957 and how the country developed from an agricultural state to an industrial state, and now becomes one of the top 20 largest trading nation in the world. He also highlights the cordial relations between Malaysia and Qatar, and the remarkable growth of bilateral trade between the two which has surpassed QR1 billion mark in 2007. At the end of the speech, he advised Malaysians in Qatar to preserve the good name of Malaysia at all times.
The reception was attended by HE Saif Muqaddam Al Buainain, Assistant Foreign Minister as the Guest of Honour. It was also attended by Toh Puan Rahah Mohd Noah, wife of the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. More than 200 people attended the reception.
Cultural performances by Malaysian community enliven the reception with a numvber of shows including Kencana Wati dance, Datun Julud dance, Zapin dance and Dikir Barat show.
A selection of Malaysian dishes was served during the reception including satay, nasi minyak and nasi tomato.
