Doha • Sime Darby Berhad launched its first office in the Middle East in Doha, signalling the company's intention to make the region a key area for its oil and gas business, yesterday.

Sime Darby is a Malaysian multinational company involved in plantations, property, energy and utilities.

"The Middle East will be our key growth area and we chose Qatar as our launch pad into this market because of its vibrant economy and active oil and gas market. We are confident that our permanent presence here will give us an advantage in scouting for opportunities in Qatar and other parts of the region," said Dato' Seri Ahmad Zubir Murshid, President and Group Chief Executive of the company.

"We will also try to enter into other markets like property and food in Qatar," he added in the presence of Dato' Shahrul Ikram, Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar and senior officials. The Al Mana group will be their partner in Qatar.
