Week-long exhibition of Malaysian products opens

DOHA ? Malaysia is stepping up its drive to boost two-way trade with Qatar with a number of companies taking part in a week-long exhibition which opened here yesterday.
H E Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), opened the Asian Showcase Exhibition titled 'Millenium Qatar ? Explore The New Opportunities' at the Sheraton Doha Hotel and Resorts.
Also present at the opening ceremony were the Minister of State for Interior, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Malaysian Ambassador to Qatar, Dato' Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, ambassadors, other senior officials as well as the representatives of Al Attiyah Group of Trading Companies.
Executives and representatives from 60 of Malaysia's largest firms, under the wing of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), all seeking investment opportunities, openings for their exports and business partnerships, are showcasing their products and services at the Asian Showcase which runs until January 19.
Also displaying their products and services at the exhibition, organised by Al-Attiyah Group of Trading Companies along with Think Plus Consulting from Malaysia, are companies from New Zealand, South Korea and Qatar.
A total of 95 companies have set up 76 booths to showcase their latest products and services.
The organisers have brought together companies featuring the latest products, state-of-the-art technology and services from various fields such as construction, building materials, steel, fittings, electrical, furniture, aviation, steel, education and professional services.
In his opening remarks at the Showcase, Dato' Ku Jaafar urged the exhibitors and participants to explore the opportunity to learn more about Qatar, develop trust and confidence.
?I hope this is not going to be the first and the last trip here but just the beginning of more venture ahead,? he said.
Referring to 'Visit Malaysia Year' marking 50 years of Independence of his country, the Ambassador urged Malaysian businessmen and exhibitors to also double their role by becoming 'Honorary Ambassadors' for Malaysia.
?Not only that you bring with you good quality products, technology and services to Qatar but you are also a good tourism promoter by extending and showing Qataris and non Qataris, of Malaysian capability, efficiency, professionalism and above all honesty and courtesy during your business dealings, meeting and contacts with the local partners and counterparts,? he said.
Total trade between Qatar and Malaysia has grown steadily.
