Malaysia and Romania step up cooperation in energy sector

Malaysia and Romania have moved forward in energy cooperation upon the visit of the Societatea National Nuclearelectrica (SNN) of Romania to Malaysia from 14-16 July 2008. The SNN is a state-owned company and its main activities are centred on the generation of electrical and thermal power, and manufacturing of nuclear fuel. The SNN delegation was led by its Chairman, Mr. Gabriel Burlacu and accompanied by the senior management of the agency.

, the SNN had a one-day seminar at the Malaysia Nuclear Agency on 14 July 2008. Among the key topics discussed were

Romania

’s experience and lesson learned in nuclear energy programme, safety aspects for introducing nuclear power radioactive waste management, public information and acceptance of nuclear energy and human resources development for nuclear power programme. On the following day, SNN had the opportunity to participate in the ASIAN Power Forum 2008 held at Istana Hotel,

Kuala Lumpur

. On the final day, a bilateral meeting was held with the senior management of the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, followed by technical visit to Reactor Triga Puspati, Sinagama Irradiation Plant and Radioactive waste Management Centre.
