2ND ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL IN JEDDAH

The Asian Consuls General Club (ACGC) successfully organized the 2nd.Asian Film Festival in Jeddah from 7-19 March 2009. Fourteen Asian countries, including host country Saudi Arabia, presented their documentaries and feature films.

 

The film festival was opened by Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Tayyeb, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah Region, who described the festival as an important event that could help Asian countries to know the richness of each other’s culture and heritage. Saud Al-Sheikhi, Director General of the Ministry of Culture and Information, Makkah Region, and Consuls General of all the 13 Asian countries were present at the inauguration.

 

Malaysia Nite

 

Thursday, 14 March 2009 was Malaysia’s turn to host the event. The evening started with a short welcoming remark by the Consul General Hidayat Abdul Hamid. Short documentaries on “Malaysia Truly Asia” gave a preview of Malaysia and its multi-racial, multi-linguistic and multi-cultural people and the many interesting destinations in Malaysia. The main attraction that evening was the Malay epic film Puteri Gunung Ledang.

 

The auditorium at the Indonesian Consul General was packed with audience consisting Consuls General, government officials, business people, travel agents, media personnel and the local community. During the break, guests were treated todelicious Malaysian delicacies. Some lucky audiences brought home electronic items given at a lucky draw. No one left the show empty handed. Apart from the door gifts, audience took home brochures and Tourism Malaysia CDs.
