ASEAN GAMES 2009 - SEPAK TAKRAW TOURNAMENT

The Consulate General of Malaysia organized a Sepak Takraw Tournament at its premises on 5 August 2009, as part of the ASEAN GAMES FESTIVAL 2009.

Teams from all the six ASEAN Consulates in Jeddah took part in the tournament. The event was made merrier with the attendance of a large number of supporters from the ASEAN Community as they enjoyed not only the games but snacks and drinks prepared by PERWAKILAN – the Ladies Association of the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah.

After a series of grueling matches Thailand A emerged as Champion. First runner-up went to Malaysia B, while Malaysia A took third place. A special event was held this year for individual players to show their juggling skills. A participant from Indonesia won the event juggling the takraw ball 164 times. Prizes and trophies were given away by the Consul General and representatives of the ASEAN Consulates in Jeddah.

The Consul General of Malaysia praised the participants and supporters for their sportsmanship. He also thanked the officers and staff of the Malaysian Consulate General for organizing an enjoyable evening for the ASEAN Community.

ASEAN GAMES FESTIVAL 2009 started with a Table Tennis Tournament hosted by the Royal Thai Consulate General on 2^nd July, a Badminton Tournament organized by the Singapore Consulate on 16^th July 2009, while the Philippines Consulate General organized a Bowling Tournament on 30^th July 2009.
