MADINAH – Nineteen Malaysian students were among the 4,500 students whom successfully graduated during the 49th Batch Graduation Ceremony of Islamic University of Madinah Al-Munawwarah (IUM) held on 21 April 2013. As a tradition, the Consulate General of Malaysia, Jeddah and the graduates hosted an Appreciation and Award Presentation Night at Aramas Hotel, Madinah on 30 May 2013. The event serves as to appreciate and acknowledge the achievements of the graduates both from IUM and University of Ummul Qura, Mecca whom had completed their studies in various field and awarded with a BA and MA degrees.
Mr. Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, the Consul General of Malaysia in Jeddah was the chief guest and later presented certificates and achievements awards to all graduates. In his opening remarks, he stated that Malaysian graduates are among the 160 countries foreign students whom are given the golden opportunity to study at IUM. Since IUM inception 50 years ago, Malaysia had produce nearly 1000 graduates in various field such as Shari'ah (Islamic Law); the Holy Qur'an (textual studies of the Holy Book); Da'wah and Usul Al-Din (propagation and theology); Hadith (Islamic traditions); and the Arabic language from IUM. Consul General further stated that at the recent IUM Convocation, a Malaysian student from the theology department, Ustaz Muhammad Asrie Sobri was awarded the top 5 best students awards by the university. “We are proud that the graduates with a good command of Arabic and modern Islamic knowledge could return back and serve in key areas of importance in both public and private sectors”, he said.
Consul General further expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, as well as Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Madinah Region and IUM Management for their strong support and assistance for Malaysians to study in IUM.
