The 54th Anniversary of the National Day of Malaysia was celebrated with a grand reception hosted by Mr. Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, the Consul General of Malaysia, Jeddah on 31 August 2011. More than 650 invitees including diplomatic corps, Officials from the Saudi Arabia Government and Private Sectors, Media friends, Malaysians students and professionals attended the celebration which also coincides with the second day of the joyous Eid ul-Fitr (Syawal). H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohamad Nabil Bukhari, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jeddah was the Guest of Honour. The momentous event kicked off with the hoisting of Jalur Gemilang along with singing of NEGARAKU, followed by the National Anthem of Saudi Arabia, cake cutting ceremony and presentation of memento to the Guest of Honour.
Later, the Consul General delivered a National Day Remarks followed by an astonishing Malay dance performance entitled `Dikir Puteri’ performed by three children of the Consulate. All the invitees then were treated to an authentic Hari Raya Cuisines including 10,000 sticks of Satay Samuri (chicken/beef) specially flown from Malaysia, Nasi Impit, Rendang Daging, Rendang Ayam, Nasi Tomato, Ayam Masak Merah, Kuah Kacang, Roti Canai, ABC and varieties of Kueh Raya. The main programme of the evening was a raffle draw where the grand prize was a return ticket for Jeddah-Kul-Jeddah sponsored by Malaysia Airlines plus 12 other prizes.
All invitees were given door gifts i.e. tourism brochures and souvenirs by Tourism Malaysia, Jeddah at the end of the event.
