2019 Malaysian National Day Reception in Senegal

The Embassy of Malaysia in Dakar held a reception to mark the 62nd year of independence for Malaysia, on 31 October 2019. The choice of the venue for the reception was a restaurant in Almadies, with wonderful views of the sea, emphasized even more with the view of the sunset around the time of the reception.

Around 150 guests, comprising of foreign ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the Senegal Administration, MTCP Alumni members, and other friends of Malaysia, attended the reception. Also in attendance were Malaysians resident in Dakar, Cabo Verde, and those on a business trip to Senegal.

The Republic of Senegal was represented by Mr. Cheikh Oumar Hahn, the Minister of Higher Education, who delivered a speech on behalf of the Government and people of Senegal. After speeches by both the Minister and the Ambassador of Malaysia, guests partook in local, Western, and Malaysian food, including bihun goreng, roti jala and kari ayam, tepung pelita, and of course – teh tarik.
