The Embassy of Malaysia was invited by the Jean Mermoz French High School in Dakar to give a short briefing on Malaysia during the Commonwealth Week programme organised by the English Department of the school. The main aim of the Commonwealth Week programme is to give exposure to the students of Jean Mermoz French High School on the Commonwealth as well as member countries. More importantly, the programme gives the opportunity for the students to practice English in a different setting.

The briefing on Malaysia was done by Mr. Jeremiah Oliver Jitos, Counselor on Thursday, 22 March 2012. The briefing which lasted for about one hour began by a short video presentation, “Malaysia: Truly Asia”. The video presentation managed to capture the students’ imaginations by showcasing the sights and sounds of Malaysia. This was then followed by a short briefing which touched on the geography, basic facts, people, government, history and the economy of Malaysia. The briefing also offered a small glimpse of Malaysia’s achievement after independence and notable achievements in the Commonwealths such as the hosting of CHOGM in 1989 and Commonwealth Games in 1998.
A ‘Q&A’ session provided the opportunity to pose questions on issues ranging from diplomacy and economy.
