On Friday, 30 August 2013, the Embassy of Malaysia organized a flag raising ceremony to commemorate the 56th Merdeka Day celebration. The flag raising event started off with the singing of the National Anthem, ‘Negaraku’ which was led by Mr. Mohd Shahafeez Shaharis along with the Home-Based Staff (HBS) and Locally Recruited Staff (LRS).
In his speech, Mr. Mohd Shahafeez delivered a short remark about the success of Malaysia in its 56 years of independence which makes Malaysia a role model among developing countries. Furthermore, he urged all members of staff to instill pride within themselves as important contributors towards that success. He also urged for all staff to strive towards improving the quality of work in the future. The event ended with morning tea which served Malaysian dishes such as ‘mee goreng’, ‘roti john’, traditional cakes and ‘teh tarik’.
