On Monday, 30 August 2010, the Embassy of Malaysia in Dakar organised a flag raising ceremony to commemorate the 53rd Merdeka Day celebration.
The flag raising event started off with the singing of the National Anthem, ‘Negaraku’ which was led by H.E. Dato’ Jamaiyah M. Yusof and members of the Home-Based Staff (HBS) and Locally Recruited Staff (HBS) while the Malaysian flag was hoisted.
Immediately after the completion of the flag raising and the singing of the national anthem, H.E. Dato’ Jamaiyah M. Yusof delivered a short remark reminding all on the importance of remembering the spirit of ‘merdeka’ (independence) despite celebrating the auspicious occasion abroad. Dato’ Ambassador also reminded all to uphold and protect the image of Malaysia in Senegal.
