The Ambassador of Malaysia to Senegal (concurrently accredited to The Gambia as the High Commissioner) presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of The Gambia Adama Barrow on 2 February 2021. She was accompanied by First Secretary Mr Abdul Wafi Zulkipli and Secretary Mr Noor Habibollah to the ceremony.

Upon her arrival at the State House of The Gambia, Dr Shazelina stood in salute to the National Anthem and the hoisting of the flags. She was then ushered to the receiving room and introduced to President Adama Barrow, where she handed over her Letter of Credence and Letter of Recall (of her predecessor). Dr Shazelina also conveyed the regards of His Majesty the King of Malaysia

President Barrow commended that the state of bilateral relations of both countries is at excellent level, but there is always room for improvement in order to take the existing relations to a greater height. President Barrow also remarked that Malaysia has done well for itself in providing training for its younger generation so that they can meet the demands of the country and beyond.  He said that Malaysia has not, in the past, been stinting of the training it has rendered to other developing countries, and he found this to be an extremely admirable trait.

HE Dr Shazelina also took the opportunity of being in The Gambia to meet with key members of the Administration including Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara, Petroleum and Energy Minister Fafa Sanyang, and Higher Education Minister Badara Joof. A number of common interest matters were discussed in these meetings including the state of bilateral relations between the two countries and cooperation in the field of higher education, oil and gas, and capacity building.
