AMBASSADOR CHUAH ATTENDS 67TH VICTORY DAY CELEBRATION IN UKRAINE
H.E. Ambassador Chuah Teong Ban attended the 67th Victory Day Celebration in Ukraine at the Independence Square in downtown Kyiv. The Victory Day marked the end of World War II in 1945 following the surrender and complete withdrawal of the Nazi Armed Forces from the territories of then Soviet Republic of Ukraine. President Viktor Yanukovych gave a keynote speech to mark the auspicious occasion. Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, senior party officials, senior public officials, military top brass, veterans and diplomatic corps also attended. The public gallery were packed with people from all strata of the society waving national flag, nationalistic symbols, streamers and flowers. This year’s celebration was a modest showcase of group dance performances and songs by military personnel and youths towards glorifying peace and victory of the Great Patriotic War. The softer approach this year which emphasized on peace and involvement of youth was tangent from the past practices of street parade to display military might - military hard wares, arsenals, military strength and various uniformed units.
