The Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing, Y.B. Dato' Raja Nong Chik Bin Dato' Raja Zainal Abidin was on a Working Visit to Los Angeles and San Francisco, California and San Antonio, Texas from 20-26 August 2012.

The objectives of the visit were to study the river cleaning and river beautification work that has been successfully done in the above mentioned three cities and to promote Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley (GKL/KV) as well as to attract foreign investment into GKL/KV.

The GKL/KV National Key Economic Area (NKEA) is one of the 12 NKEAs under the Economic Transformation Programme. The goal of this NKEA is to transform GKL/KV into the top-20 most livable metropolis globally and the top-20 in terms of economic growth. To achieve these goals, nine Entry Point Projects (EPP) and three Business Opportunities (BO) were set. The revitalization of the Klang River into a heritage and commercial centre in GKL/KV is the focus of EPP 5-River of Life (RoL). The revitalization is important in terms of giving the city a more economic and liveability appeal as evident in most of the top ranking cities.
