Please be informed that According to the Malaysian election laws, 2 types of electors can be registered by the Election Commission:
1.1 Normal Electors: Normal electors are registered electors who need to be present at polling centre to cast their votes during polling; and
1.2 Absent Voters: Absent voters are those specified under Regulation 2, Elections (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002 i.e. members of the Malaysian Armed Forces and their spouses, Malaysian civil servants who are serving abroad and their spouses and full-time Malaysian students abroad over the age of 21 and their spouses. Absent voters are permitted to cast their votes through postal voting.
2. For Malaysians qualified as absent voters, and who reside in New York and its surrounding areas, you are advised to be present at the Consulate and register with us by filling up Form A-Peraturan-Peraturan Pilihan Raya (Pendaftaran Pemilih) 2002, which can be obtained at the Consulate.
