On 9 December 2010, the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington, D.C. hosted the 53rd National Day and 77th Armed Forces Day of Malaysia. Some 300 guests from the U.S. Government, diplomatic corps, the business and Malaysian community attended the event, and the Guest of Honour for that evening was Ambassador Jeffrey Bader, Senior Director of the National Security Council. Other invitees included the Honourable Eni Faleomavaega, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia, Pacific and the Global Environment and James T. Faust, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, Department of Defense.
During his welcoming remarks, TYT Dato' Sri Dr. Jamaludin Jarjis, Ambassador of Malaysia to the U.S., highlighted the achievements made in bilateral relations this year, including the bilateral meeting between YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia and U.S. President Barack Obama as well as the recent visits of the U.S. Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense to Malaysia in November 2010. In addition to the sumptious Malaysian dishes prepared by Perwakilan members, the guests were also treated to a repertoire of three traditional Malaysian dances performed by the children of the Embassy staff.
