AI for All: China-ASEAN Super League – Smart City Development and Innovation Competition kicks off in Nanning

In the morning of 30 March 2026, Consul General Mr. Ahmad Phadil Ismail participated in the AI for All: China-ASEAN Super League – Smart City Development and Innovation Competition, at Nanning Wuxiang International Hotel. The event was co-hosted by Guangxi Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Guangxi Department of Education, Guangxi Federation of Trade Unions and Nanning Municipal People’s Government.

The Competition challenges the participants to develop forward-thinking AI application in areas such as smart construction, green buildings, intelligent residential communities, urban development and governance, as well as urban safety and public service.

The event was attended by over 10 participants from Malaysia, including Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Tan Chee Fai, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology, officials and engineers from Kuantan City Council, and representatives from Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT).

Prevailing over a strong field of 1382 entries from China and ASEAN, Kuantan City Council team took home the ASEAN Application Innovation Award with their Smart Pedestrian Crosswalk program, while student team of TAR UMT claimed Second Prize with their TrailKIT, an AI-powered roadside emergency safety solution aimed at protecting drivers and reducing the risk of secondary collisions during vehicle breakdowns.

Also in attendance were H.E. Xu Xianhui, Vice Governor of Guangxi People’s Government, senior officials from Cambodia and Lao PRD, and diplomats from other ASEAN missions in Nanning and Guangzhou.
