YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, at the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama, attended the Nuclear Security Summit, held on 12-13 April 2010. On the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit, YAB PM had a 40-minute bilateral meeting with President Obama. He also held a bilateral meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.
He was also hosted to a working lunch by Vice President Joseph Biden at the Naval Observatory. YAB PM was among 15 Heads of State/Government of countries who are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
He also received courtesy calls by Secretary of Treasury Timothy F. Geithner, USTR Ron Kirk, World Bank President Robert Zoellick, Deputy Secretary of State Dr. James Steinberg and other senior Government officials.
YAB PM was hosted by Congressman Howard Berman, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs committee to lunch on 14 April 2010. During the same day, YAB PM held meetings with Senator John Kerry (D-Massachusetts), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as well as Senator Jim Webb (D-Virginia), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Affairs.
He also had a meeting with Senator Kit Bond (R-Missouri) prior to providing the key note address at the “Trade and Investment Summit: Opportunities in the USA” at the US Chamber of Commerce.
At the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), YAB PM gave the key note address entitled: “US-Malaysia Relations: Looking Ahead at Key Pillars of Cooperation.” YAB PM also had meetings with venture capitalists, selected think tanks and senior media representatives.
