On the request of the Embassy of Malaysia on 30th March 2010 H.E. Elyor Ganiyev, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, received Ambassador Abdul Aziz at his office in Tashkent.
2. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on the bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of investments, economic cooperation and trade.
3. H.E. Elyor Ganiyev noted that bilateral cooperation between the two countries have been developing progressively ever since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992. According to H.E. Elyor Ganiyev, Uzbekistan government values its cooperation with the Malaysian oil and gas company PETRONAS which has been involved in various upstream and downstream activities in the oil and gas sector in Uzbekistan, the largest among PETRONAS activities in Uzbekistan is the construction of the gas to liquid fuel (GTL) plant in Kashkadarya province by 2013 with an estimated cost of over USD2 billion. The GTL project is a joint project of Malaysian PETRONAS, South African SASOL and Uzbekneftegas National Oil and Gas Company.
4. Both sides also discussed bilateral cooperation in various other fields including health care, aviation, manufacturing of electronic and electic goods and other fields. H.E. Elyor Ganiyev also invited Malaysian companies to invest into Uzbekistan’s economy, especially in the Navoi Free Economic Zone (FEZ) which has been launched in 2009.
5. Both sides also agreed to work closely with each other for the enhancement of the bilateral economic cooperation in the future.
