VISIT TO VINFAST MANUFACTURING COMPLEX IN HAI PHONG CITY, VIETNAM

H.E. Dato’ Ambassador and officials from MW Hanoi made a visit to the VinFast Manufacturing Complex in Hai Phong City, Vietnam on 11 June 2020. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Shaun Calvert, Vice President of VinFast (External Affairs) and his team.
Mr. Calvert explained that VinFast focuses on high quality products matched with a premium price tag. The reason for this is to build an impression of VinFast as a high-quality brand, capable of competing at the topmost level with other luxury automotive brands i.e. the Mercedes Benz and BMW. Apart from automobiles, VinFast also produces electric scooters for local and international markets. VinFast cars, however, are currently sold for the Vietnamese market.
The automotive industry in Vietnam is a fast growing industry. The manufacturing complex is designed to produce up to 500,000 vehicles a year. VinFast currently utilizes 30% localisation rates of parts but is aiming for 60%. Ambassador proposes for VinFast to look into the possibility of cooperation with Malaysian automotive companies namely Proton and Perodua. Vinfast further informed that their doors are open, and they welcome assertive suppliers to seize the opportunity.
After the meeting, Dato’ Ambassador was given a tour at the Manufacturing Complex and given the chance to test drive the VinFast Lux SA 2.0 (Lux V8), a sedan and the Lux SA 2.0 SUV.
