MELBOURNE (May 26, 2012): The Malaysian Consul General here, Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya, has urged a group of Malaysians who has completed a training programme at the Holmesglen Institute, under the auspices of the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC), to enhance the country's reputation as producer of quality products in the furniture and building industries.
He said they should pass on the knowledge and experience gained during the three-month course to further develop Malaysia's building and construction industry.
This would enable Malaysia to achieve its 2020 Vision of a high-income country, he said.
The Consul General said vocational training was high on the Malaysian government's priority list and thanked Holmesglen for its collaboration in training the young Malaysians.
Dr Rameez was speaking at a ceremony at Holmesglen Institute on Friday when eight Malaysians were presented with certificates after completing a 12-week intensive course in furniture, building and construction.
The certificates were presented by David Enden, Director of Holmesglen International Centre to Goh Tian Teck, Chung Dean Farn, Loong Kam Chuan, Rohaiza Abdul Kadir, Tan Siew Lian, Chang Wai Hoe, Paul Low Kung Ling and Saidatul Nafisah Sahrin.
They were selected by MTC to attend this training programme customised to meet the council's specific requirements, incorporating units from the furnishing certificate courses and building diploma course.
Holmesglen manager of International Student Programmes, Krish Iyrapatham told Bernama. "Training consists of classroom/workshop instruction and visits to seven industry sites," he said.
"The training also included a practical hands-on component including the design and construction of a piece of furniture by each participant," he added. – Bernama
