On Saturday, 30 May 2015, the Embassy of Malaysia in collaboration with Ladies Association of the Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels (PERWAKILAN Brussels) and Malaysian Association in Belgium and Luxembourg (MABL) organized a Malaysian Bazaar at the compound of the Embassy of Malaysia in Brussels to promote a specific facet of Malaysian culture.
The theme, "The Flavours of Malaysia", was chosen to showcase the array of delicious and popular dishes from Malaysia’s diverse ethnic groups and yet as 1Malaysia cuisine. The local community and the Malaysian diaspora in Belgium had the opportunity to sample and enjoy a variety of Malaysia food including satay, nasi lemak, beef rendang, roti jala, beriyani rice and chicken rice. There were also Malaysia’s all-time favourite drink teh- tarik, air batu campur (ABC), cendol and assorted traditional Malaysian desserts, savouries and sweetcakes such as kuih serimuka, talam ubi, cara and rojak.
The event received a good response from locals and the diplomatic community. Most had been waiting for the Malaysian Bazaar to be held due to the positive experience they had at the Malaysian Bazaar in 2014. They also relished the "Malaysian Pasar Malam" atmosphere so beloved by Malaysians and very much sought out by visitors for a truly Malaysian experience.
As part of the initiative to promote palm oil in Belgium, the Embassy gave away palm oil for cooking visitors sponsored by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) Office in Brussels.
