All ten ASEAN diplomatic missions in Brussels came together on 24 July 2011 at the Embassy of Thailand for the first ASEAN Family Day, organised by the ASEAN Brussels Committee (ABC), led by the Thai Mission (ABC Chairman for the first half of 2011). Around 120 adults and children took part in the event.
The food spread consisted of all ASEAN dishes contributed by each Mission with Malaysia contributing our famous spicy Nasi Goreng Kampung.
Children were all gathered in a corner of the building to enjoy children's games that was coordinated by Ms. Rafiqa Hazura Md Ridzuan of the Mission of Malaysia, and assisted by colleagues from the Philippines, Ms. Christina Rola, Thailand, Mr. Akrapong and from Brunei, Ms. Siti Saffawani. The games provided were Pop the Balloon, Sweets in the Flour, Musical Chair, Grape on the Spoon, Guess the Sweets in a Jar and Post-it-Notes hunt. All children were delighted with all the gifts that were contributed by all the ASEAN Missions.
While children were enjoying themselves playing games, the adults were gathered in the hall and were being entertained by a string of singers from almost all Missions.
