On 19 September 2011, Honourable Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim , Minister of Information Communications and Culture made a working visit to Brussels. The purpose of his visit was to lobby for Malaysia's candidature to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the 2011-2015 term.
He was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Utama Masnah Rais, the Deputy Secretary General (Culture), Dato' Ghaffar Ab. Ghani, Commissioner of the National Department of Heritage, Datin Paduka Siti Zuraina Abd. Majid and four officers.
Honourable Datuk Seri Dr. Rais Yatim hosted a luncheon meeting, attended by the Ambassadors of Jamaica, Malawi and Tajikistan and the representatives from Barbados, Fiji and Kyrgyz Republic, of which their Brussels-based Embassy are accredited to the UNESCO Paris.
