BILATERAL MEETING SEEKS TO ENHANCE INFORMATION TIES WITH MALAYSIA
The information departments of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia are expected to enhance their cooperation in the wake of increasingly challenging issues facing the region and the world, including the rise in oil and food prices as well as natural disasters.
In an interview prior to the 3rd Joint MoU Executive Committee Meeting between the two departments yesterday, Malaysia's Director-General of Information, Dato' Haji Abdullah Morad, said that Brunei and Malaysia are not only geographically linked but also culturally. There are some similarities in both communities, he added.
The meeting was held at the Department of Information at Old Airport, Berakas.
He said strong cooperation between the two information departments is vital in ensuring that the right information is handled tactfully in a midst of increasingly challenging regional and global issues.
Brunei and Malaysia, he said, have successfully implemented several programmes under agreement, but there are still some that could not be implemented due to a few shortcomings. He said part of the agenda during this meeting is to address the problems.
Brunei's Acting Director of Information, Awang Hj Mahrub bin Awang Hj Murni, said the meeting will discuss the long-established Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries in the wake of increasingly challenging issues facing the region and the world, including the rise in oil and food prices as well as natural disasters.
Among the agenda put forward at the meeting was to discuss the reports on programmes under the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of information implemented by the two countries.
The programmes included the exchange of publication and exhibition, news and photography exchanges, personnel exchanges as well as exchange of reporters and photographers.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the long-established relations between the two governments.
Some 13 delegations and five observers from Brunei's Information Department and 10 delegates from Malaysia's Information Department attended the meeting.
While in Brunei, the Malaysian delegation will have the opportunity to see the work and programmes of Brunei's Information Department as well as visit Temburong District to see first-hand the development programmes and community activities.
