On 12 May 2024, the High Commission of Malaysia in Bandar Seri Begawan hosted the Malaysian footballing legends to a luncheon at its Chancery.
Eighteen former international Malaysian football players competed against Bruneian legendary footballers in a Battle of the Legends earlier on 11 May 2024 at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. The Malaysian team comprised of former national football stars from the 90s and 2000s led by former Malaysia head coach Datuk K. Rajagobal.
The Malaysian High Commissioner, His Excellency Raja Dato’ Reza Raja Zaib Shah expressed the High Commission’s continued support towards the organising of sporting events in Brunei that brings peoples of both countries together through shared love of physical pursuits.
The Battle of the Legends was organised in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam which saw the Malaysian team emerged victorious with a score of 4-1 over the Bruneian former international players.
