REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE
Application has to be made in person (both husband and wife) at:

| 1. | 1 original Registration Form, JPN.KC O6 (available at the Consulate General of Malaysia)

| 2. | 3 recent coloured photographs of applicants with white background, size 3.5 cm x 5.0 cm with small envelope (print name behind photos)
|
| 3. | Original Canadian Marriage Certificate with 2 photocopies
|
| 4. | Original Passport of applicants with 2 photocopies of biodata pages 1 and 2
|
| 5. | Original Malaysian Identity Card of applicants with 2 photocopies (front and back)
|
| 6. | Original Birth Certificate of applicants with 2 photocopies (front and back)
|
| 7. | Valid original Canadian Permanent Residence (PR) Card with 2 photocopies. If you DO NOT possess a valid Canadian PR Card, you are required to produce a Search Letter from the Canadian Immigration Citizenship (CIC) Department confirming that you have not acquired Canadian Citizenship (not applicable to those below 18 years of age) OR

| 8. | Those on Student Visa, please produce a letter from your university, college or school, confirming that you are a bona fide student together with your valid original study visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies OR

| 9. | Those on work visa, please produce your valid original work visa issued by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship (CIC) Department with 2 photocopies
|
| 10. | Fee: CAD 15.00 cash only (exact change)
|
| 11. | 2 separate sets of original authenticated documents by the Provincial government (Refer to Notes 4 and 5)

NOTE:
- Processing takes five (5) business days, where both husband and wife will be required to be present at the Office to sign the marriage certificates.
- The marriage must be registered with the Consulate General of Malaysia within 6 months from the date of marriage. Any registration made after 6 months of marriage is considered a late registration. The fee for late registration is CAD 35.00 for the first 12 months and CAD 20.00 for every subsequent year OR
- The marriage can also be registered in person at any National Registration Department (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) in Malaysia within six (6) months of arrival date in Malaysia and Marriage Certificate must be endorsed by the Consulate General of Malaysia.
- For Muslim marriages solemnized in Canada, registration must be done with the Islamic Religious Department (Jabatan Agama Islam) at the applicant’s local area of residence in Malaysia. The original Certificate of Conversion and the original Marriage Certificate must be authenticated by the Provincial authority in Canada.
- For non-Muslim marriages solemnized in Canada, the original Marriage Certificate must be authenticated by the Provincial authority in Canada.
- All foreign documents issued outside of Canada must be certified and attested by a government representative of the country in Canada (e.g. Consulate/High Commission/Embassy). If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and attested by the government representative.
- If the applicant is a divorcee or a widow, please submit an Absolute Decree Nisi or a death certificate of spouse respectively.

REGISTRATION OF BIRTH
Application has to be made by both parents together with the child in person at:

A child born in Canada can be registered as a Malaysian citizen at the Consulate General of Malaysia with the following conditions:
- The father of the child is a Malaysian citizen; and
- Registration is made within one (1) year from the date of birth. Failure to register thereof is considered a late registration. Late registration has to be referred to the National Registration Department, Malaysia for approval. The result of the application (approved or otherwise) will be notified to the applicant in due time.

NOTE:

- For births in Canada, the original Birth Certificate must be authenticated by the Provincial authority in Canada.
- For births in BC only, you may have your original document authenticated (without a notary) by following this link
- Late registration of birth will be referred to the National Registration Department, Malaysia for approval. The result of the application (approved or otherwise) will be notified to the applicant in due time.
- All foreign documents issued outside of Canada must be certified and attested by a government representative of the country in Canada (e.g. Embassy/High Commission/Consulate). If these documents are not in English, they must be translated and attested by the government representative.
- All Malaysians residing in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan are strongly advised to register with the Consulate General of Malaysia in Vancouver in view of the frequency of natural and man-made disasters worldwide. Information gathered during registration would facilitate expeditious Consular assistance and easy access to communication with the next-of-kin in case of Emergency.
